I think we can all relate to the difficult economic challenges many people are facing. According to a recent eNewsletter (October 25,2010) in the Hearing Journal,October 2010, from the Better Hearing Institute, a summary was done"on the efficacy of hearing aids in achieving compensation equity in the workplace". According to this study, people with untreated hearing loss lost as much as $30,000 a year in income annually, depending on their degree of hearing loss." It also showed how wearing hearing aids helped to reduce the risk of income loss. I have had several people comment in my office how wearing hearing aids have helped them stay sharper at performing their duties at work. But the alarming fact to the study was "those with severe hearing loss had unemployment rates double that of the normal hearing population, and nearly double that of those who wore their hearing aids." It is critical to treat hearing loss as soon as possible, and maintain proper care while using hearing devices to maintain optimal performance at the workplace. The study from the Better Hearing Institute further acknowledges that people who hear and listen well are more apt to build better working relationships with those around them, and are more productive. If you feel your hearing is hindering you at the workplace, Hometown Hearing and Audiology offers testing, and seven day trials to see how hearing aids can help you perform better at your work environment.
